Self portrait Gustave Courbet (pencil drawing)

Image Description

Grunbdlage for this drawing is the famous self-portrait of Gustave Courbet, which he painted from 1843 to 1845. Although it was originally an oil painting, I used pencil as the medium for my neo-pointillist drawing. I wanted to see if the dramatic contrast of the original would work in the realization with dots of different sizes and gray values.

In this painting, you get the feeling that it's not me looking at the painting, but Courbet looking at me or the world I live in. The here and now is so stark, so unbelievable, so unimaginable, that one - viewed from the outside - can only cry out in horror. A wonderful template for these days.
